New Delhi: In India, a few people made a fake Indian Premier League and robbed millions of rupees from Russian gamblers. According to a report of a foreign news agency, an IPL drama was staged inside a farmhouse in the Indian state of Gujarat and gamblers sitting in Russia were seized Rs 300,000. According to the police, the counterfeiters turned some laborers into players who wore the jerseys of real IPL teams while a fake umpire was also erected which indicated a boundary or wicket.
In order to make the play a reality, a commentator who imitated the voice of Harsha Bhogle, a well-known Indian commentator from Nosrabaz, was also hired for the comedy. The matches were shown live on YouTube and the channel was named IPL.
The forgers even went so far as to give a true color to the pretense by hiring a man who imitated the voice of Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle for commentary.
The matches of this fake IPL were aired on YouTube by creating a channel. This YouTube channel was also named IPL. Interestingly, no far-off scenes were shown during the tournament. To give the impression of a stadium, the real noises of the spectators were heard from the internet and played through the speakers and it seemed that there was indeed a crowd of spectators.
Meanwhile, the Russian gamblers had no idea what was being cheated on them and the tournament reached the quarter-final stage. It may have been the final, but before that the police detected the forgery. Police have arrested four people in the case. The suspects are charged with criminal conspiracy and gambling, according to Reuters.
