The index released by World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos placed Pakistan 83rd among 117 nations. Among those countries, Japan is on top, the USA second, and Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Singapore, and Italy follow respectively.
THE POSITION OF PAKISTAN IN 2019:
Pakistan rose from 89th to 83rd place on International Travel and Tourism Development Index. It is according to the recent report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Pakistan was in 89th place back in 2019.
HOW THE INDEX RANKS COUNTRIES:
117 countries are included in the 2021 edition of the Travel and Tourism Development Index. This index ranks the countries on the basis of factors and policies enabling the sustainable and resilient development of the travel and tourism industry of each country.
PTDC ABOUT THIS ACHIEVEMENT:
The MD of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Aftab ur Rehman Rana, said that Pakistan had been ranked 83rd in the international travel and tourism competitive index. The title of the index was “Rebuilding for a Sustainable and Resilient Future.” According to him scaling six steps is quite a significant progress. And Pakistan is one of the countries in the Asia Pacific Region that have enhanced its ranking the most since 2019.
He also said that during the previous two years, the federal and provincial governments had progressed significantly in making the performance of the tourism sector better in Pakistan by taking different initiatives. Those initiatives had been taken to upgrade the following:
1. Tourism services infrastructure
2. Business environment
3. ICT readiness
4. Safety and security
5. Health and hygiene
6. Socio-economic resilience.
He expressed his ambition for achieving further enhancements in the performance of the tourism sector in Pakistan in the future. The tourism sector plays an important role in the overall socio-economic development of Pakistan.
