Waste produced in our bodies must be removed in order to maintain a healthy life. In this regard, Kidneys play a vital role. Because they eliminate ammonia, protein waste, and minerals including sodium(Na), potassium(K), and phosphorus(P).

One suffering from kidney disease should be much more careful about one’s diet. Following are five foods which kidney disease sufferers should consume:

1. Onion:

Onions

The amount of creatinine in blood should be stable. Onions contain prostaglandin, a substance that naturally minimizes blood viscosity and helps reduce high blood pressure. Therefore, onions are highly recommended for people having high creatinine levels, an increased level of which may be an indication of poor kidney function.

One small onion (70 grams) contains 3 mg sodium, 102 mg potassium, and 20 mg phosphorus.

2. Egg White:

For dialysis patients who need protein in a higher amount but with a controlled supply of phosphorus, egg white is highly recommended. Because, egg white is a rich, kidney-friendly source of protein.

Two eggs (66 g) contain 110 mg sodium,108 mg potassium, and 10 mg phosphorus.

3. Carrots:

Carrots

Carrot plays an effective role in lowering blood pressure. Moreover, it also helps in controlling diabetes, which may lead to kidney diseases. It is recommended that people with kidney diseases eat foods that help control blood pressure. As carrot works in controlling blood pressure; therefore, one suffering from kidney disease should consume carrots regularly.

4. Garlic:

Limiting sodium intake is recommended for people having kidney diseases. Salt is the product of Sodium. But without salt, curry is as dull as ditchwater. There must be some substitute for salt to be used in food in order to make it delicious. Garlic can be used as a substitute for salt to add flavor to the meal. Additionally, it provides nutritional benefits.

Three cloves (9 grams) of garlic contain 1.5 mg sodium, 36 mg potassium, and 14 mg phosphorus.

5. Olive Oil:

Fresh Organic Olive Oil

Olive oil is a phosphorus-free source of healthy fat. Therefore, it is recommended for people with kidney diseases. Olive oil is much beneficial for people having kidney diseases.

One tablespoon of olive oil (13.5 g) contains 0.3 mg sodium, 0.1 mg potassium and 0 mg phosphorus.

The above mentioned foods are highly recommended for people with kidney diseases.
